Diving the (shallow) depths!

Image
Wednesday, August 16.  Happy Birthday, Shannon!  Pretty special to get to spend it in the Caribbean! We got up and at 'em early to get to eat a snack and get packed and ready to go.  Gwen brought us some wonderful pumpkin bread that she and Gary had baked the night before.  It was wonderful! Our patio Path leading to our accommodations.  Scooby Tango One last wander around the property, load up into the car and Gwen drove us to Serenity dive shop.  I had booked two dives for this am and Shannon wanted to snorkel with us.  But she was feeling a little off, so went to the hotel instead. Harvey was my dive master today.  I was the only diver!  It has been 2 years since I was diving, so I had my refresher then off we went!  We did a shallow dive first, behind Young Island.  We started out in grass then followed the sea floor to some coral reefs.  The reefs are not as pretty as many that I h...

Tour of the Windward Side of the Island

Tuesday, August 15.  Beautiful sites awaited us after a wonderful, restful night.  It is beautiful here in the Argyle region of the island.  From the balcony we overlook the ocean and grazing cattle.  Cute geckos on the walls.  A light breakfast on our patio.  What a lovely way to start our day! Animals are staked out to graze all over the island. The island motto!  Relaxing is called "liming". These cute critters are all over the place. Gwen arranged to have her friend and neighbor, Gary, take me and Shannon on a tour of the Island. We left about 8am and traveled north on the windward side of the island. The roads are narrow and windy, and they drive on the left side... I would have had an accident in the first 10 seconds if I had been driving!!   Gary took us through the small villages and we saw the gorgeous shore line, local neighborhoods and busy crews cleaning the hillsides of overgrown vegetation that clog the draina...

We have arrived!

Stacy and Shannon in Barbados  Monday, August 14.  After long, but relatively, comfortable travels, we arrived on St Vincent Island.  Gwen, the proprietor of the lodging we are staying at, picked us up at the airport.  It was late and dark, so we could not see much, but we had a wonderful chat with Gwen, met her dogs Scooby and Tango, and settled into our comfy rooms.  We are very ready for a shower and a rest.  Looking forward to exploring tomorrow!
